About LifestealSMP

LifestealSMP applies one rule to otherwise semi-vanilla Minecraft: defeating another player takes a heart of their maximum health and adds it to yours. The specifics of the implementation are what make it work. Maximum health is capped at twenty hearts, so a dominant player eventually stops accumulating and the mode does not collapse into one untouchable individual. A floor of five hearts means nobody can be permanently eliminated from play, however badly things go. Both limits exist to keep the server viable over months — uncapped lifesteal reliably concentrates all power in whoever started winning first, after which everyone else leaves. What emerges is closer to a political situation than a combat one. Hearts are a finite, visible resource, so alliances form around protecting them, weaker players negotiate rather than fight, and a strong player near the cap has little to gain from attacking anyone — the mechanics themselves generate a rough equilibrium. Raiding and open conflict are permitted, so bases still require thought. Underneath the heart system the game stays close to vanilla, which is deliberate. The single alteration is legible enough to reason about, and everything else behaves the way players already expect. Weekend events run for prizes without risking accumulated inventories, giving people something to do that carries no downside. ms.lifestealsmp.com handles Java connections and be.lifestealsmp.com serves Bedrock, both on Minecraft 1.21. Hardware is located in Europe, which is worth noting for a mode where combat latency decides fights. The format rewards restraint more than aggression. Players who attack indiscriminately accumulate enemies faster than hearts, and on a server with a memory that tends to end badly. The cap and floor keep anyone from being driven off permanently, but they do nothing to protect a reputation, and on a server this size that is the resource which actually runs out first.
