About EarthPol

EarthPol runs a scale model of the planet, letting players raise settlements anywhere on the real map and bind them into nations. Scale is the decision that shapes everything else. A more compressed map puts everyone close together, which forces interaction but flattens geography into something abstract. A larger one preserves recognisable continents and gives travel real cost, so borders, ports and trade routes acquire strategic meaning rather than being decorative. At this ratio, countries remain identifiable, distance is a genuine obstacle, and a nation spanning several regions represents actual coordinated effort. Real geography does work that invented geography cannot. A river crossing, a mountain pass or a narrow sea has obvious value the moment anyone looks at the map, so competition concentrates where it would historically have concentrated, and the reasons are legible to everyone without explanation. Treaties read differently too when the parties occupy places with names people already recognise. The underlying machinery covers deeds, civic budgets, citizenship rolls and the constitutional apparatus that lets one town absorb or ally with another. Almost none of the interesting activity is mechanical. Frontiers are argued over, levies imposed, pacts kept or abandoned, campaigns fought and maps redrawn — none of it authored by the server, all of it the residue of people forming groups and then living with the results. Connections go to play.earthpol.com on Minecraft 1.21. Java clients only — Bedrock editions have no route in. A substantial amount of the diplomacy occurs on Discord rather than in-game, which is typical of the format and worth joining early. Newcomers are almost always better served joining an established nation than founding one alone. Existing states offer protection, infrastructure and somebody willing to explain a political situation that has been developing for a long time — none of which is easy to acquire from an unclaimed corner of the map.
