MineRefine takes the box server format and builds it around custom creatures and a grow-a-block progression system rather than conventional mining alone. The grow-a-block mechanic is the distinguishing element. Instead of extracting from a fixed supply, players cultivate a block that develops over time into progressively more valuable materials — a structure closer to farming than to mining, where the resource improves as it is tended rather than being depleted as it is removed. It changes the rhythm of the box format considerably, replacing continuous extraction with cycles of investment and harvest. Custom creatures supply the combat variety.
